Home & house portraits

The house you grew up in, painted as a record.

Send a photograph of your house — the family home, the cottage you sold, the apartment in a city you've left. The studio prepares three painterly proofs in the 19th-century architectural manner — oil, watercolour, impressionist — and finishes the one that holds the place.

Painted as architecture

House portraits are not landscapes with a building in them. They are records — proportion, fenestration, the angle of the roof, the trees that grew up around the porch. The studio reads the photograph as an architect would, then paints from that.

Three painterly registers

Classical oil for the heavier, formal piece. Watercolour or gouache for the lighter, sketch-leaning take. Impressionist for the softer, golden-hour read. Pick the one closest to how you remember the house.

iii.

A record, not a real-estate photo

Skies recomposed where the source is flat. Cars removed. Seasons adjusted on request — the house in winter, in summer, in the light you remember. What ships is the painting of how you carry the place.

Common questions

Can you paint a portrait of my house from a photograph?
Yes. Send one or several photographs of the façade. The studio prepares three painterly proofs in the 19th-century architectural manner and finishes the chosen proof with raised UV-relief brushwork on archival canvas.
I just want a portrait of my house from a photo I took on my phone — is that enough?
It usually is. One clear phone photo of the façade in daylight, taken straight-on rather than from a car window, is all a commission needs. Multiple angles help the studio read the roofline and trim, and older photographs of a house you no longer own paint just as well.
Can you remove cars and modern signage from the painting?
Yes — included at no extra charge. Cars on the street, modern parking lines, satellite dishes, and other anachronisms can be quietly removed so the house reads as a record rather than a real-estate photograph.
Can you paint the house in a different season than the photograph?
Yes. Repaint your summer photograph as a winter scene, or vice versa. Tell the studio what light or season you remember and the proofs come back with that adjustment.
How much does a custom house portrait painting cost?
Raised UV-relief rolled house portraits start at $49 for 8×10". Architectural pieces often look better at 20×24" or 24×30".
Is a custom house portrait a good housewarming or closing gift?
Yes — a painted house portrait is the studio's most-requested closing-gift and farewell commission. Anonymous packaging is available for surprise deliveries.
