Dog portraits

A custom oil portrait of your dog, true to the eye.

Send one photograph of your dog. The studio paints it as a commissioned oil portrait — the tilt of the head, the exact coat, the look you know by heart — and you choose the brushwork, palette, and light before anything reaches canvas.

i.

Bred true, painted individual

A Golden carries light differently than a Lab; a beagle's tri-colour sits differently than a terrier's wiry grey. The studio keeps a per-breed register of palette and brushwork, so the dog in the painting reads as your breed — and, more importantly, as your dog.

ii.

One photograph does the sitting

No studio appointment, no posed hour on a stool. A sharp phone photo in daylight — eyes in focus, coat readable — is all a commission needs. Older photographs work too: many portraits we paint honour a dog who is no longer here, from the pictures their family kept.

iii.

Fur with actual depth

The chosen proof is finished on 380 g/m² acid-free cotton gallery canvas with raised UV-relief brushwork — up to 1.8 mm of physical stroke in the fur, the whiskers, the catch-light in the eyes. It reads as a painting from across the room and rewards a closer look.

Common questions

Can you paint my dog from a photo?
Yes — a single photograph is all we need. Daylight photos at the dog's eye level work best, but the studio can work from most clear images and will tell you honestly if a photo won't paint well before you pay anything.
Will the portrait actually look like my dog?
Coat pattern, eye colour, ear set, and muzzle shape stay exactly as they are in your photograph — only the painterly variables (brushwork, palette, light) are yours to choose. You review three painterly proofs side by side and can request another set free of charge until the likeness sits right.
Can you paint a memorial portrait of a dog who has passed away?
Yes, and many of our commissions are exactly that. We regularly paint from older photographs — the pictures taken in a favourite park, on a birthday, or simply around the house. If you have several, send them all and the studio will compose from the best of each.
How much does a custom dog portrait cost?
Raised UV-relief rolled canvas starts at $49 for an 8×10" piece, with transparent per-size pricing up to 26×39". Ready-to-hang stretcher-bar finishing is priced per size at checkout. Shipping is free in the contiguous United States.
How long does a dog portrait take?
First proofs are usually ready within minutes of upload. From approval of your final proof, the finished painting is hand-checked, packed, and typically delivered within 15 business days.
